Barney Chambers
In order to describe Barney first we need to look to the past where the Chambers name originated.
In the late 1700’s Donald Cameron was from one of the most ancient clans of West Highland Scotland. The Cameron Clans were described as Fiercer then Fierce.
The Camerons were staunch Jacobite supporters but were exiled to France after losing the Battle of Culloden in 1746. While in France the sur name Chambers originated.
The crest used as our official logo represents a sheath of five arrows. One arrow alone can be broken, yet united together arrows are strong. The present motto of the crest is “Aonaibh Ri Cheile” which roughly translated means “Unite” or “Let Us Unite” This can describe Barney as he truly has always been a horseman who wanted to share and be apart of all types of riding, training, breeding and showing the industry has to offer.
Barney Chambers has always wanted to learn more each day and strive to be better to his fellow equine too. He has a soft heart for working dogs, and a hell of a good eye for good mules and horses.
Born in Phoenix Arizona, Barney spend his youth ranching with his family, between the open desserts of Arizona and the mountains of Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
Barneys grandfather “Pop Chambers” ran freight wagons between Pagosa Springs and Durango, CO.
Barneys father “Karl Byron Chambers” was a highly decorated marine pilot in WWII. As a young man, he graduated from Arizona State University with an Animal Science Degree.
Barney worked for Cutter Laboratories, yet found working horses and mules seemed to draw his time. It was then, in 1963, he started Coyote Mule Company.
Training buying and selling mules across the United States kept this Scottish cowboy busy fulltime.
Barney had a string of racing mules he ran all over the west coast. One of his most famous mules – “Molly B” – took 5 time World Champion Flat Track race mule.
Barney managed a large cutting horse ranch near Bryce Canyon, Utah in the 80’s and then moved to Fromburg, Montana where he continued to sell mules and horses to customers wanting good quality stock.
It was there in Montana, Barney identified a demand for learning more about mules and horses. That’s when Barney started offering some of the first mulemanship clinics.
In early 2000, Barney met Bobbi and her family at a local Mule show. It was then that Barney and Bobbi teamed up, buying and selling mules and the rest is history. The couple were married in 2006 and added Jack Chambers to the family in 2007.
Coyote Mule Company has been a major part of Barney Chambers entire life and this successful operation has now brought him and his family to the historic farm in Maysville, Kentucky where they now call home.
Barney Chambers is of material that legends are made of and has lovingly infused his son Jack with his passion for mules and horses, passing on to the next generation the legacy of Coyote Mule Company and Chambers Stables.
It’s a great honor to assist others the lessons of mulemanship and perhaps the old Scotts from the Highlands are looking down, proud to see their blood runs true.
